A double chin is subcutaneous fat situated under the chin and around the neck, making the skin sag like a turkey neck. This is one of the first signs of aging or a tell-all that you have taken poor care of your body. These sagging jowls occur when excess fat cells deposit under the chin. Fortunately, there are many treatments available for a double chin.

Diet

Eating a healthy, balanced diet is the easiest way to shrink fat cells, according to Medical News Today. While you can't spot-shrink fat cells, you can eat a healthy diet in order to lose weight all over to eliminate a double chin. According to the American Council on Exercise, you should reduce your portion sizes by about 15 percent, reduce or restrict alcohol consumption and consume a balanced diet of fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy and whole grains in order to lose weight.

Exercise

High-intensity aerobic exercise will help you burn calories in order for you to lose weight. Losing weight will help get rid of fat around your chin. High-intensity cardio exercise increases your metabolism, and weight training increases your muscle mass, in order to burn additional calories, even while resting.

Facial Exercise

Facial exercise that focuses on the platysma--the muscle extending from your chin down your throat--may be an effective treatment for a double chin. These simple exercises can reduce a double chin by tightening up your platysma, chin and face muscles in order to reduce the appearance of a double chin. For example, stand straight and lift your head up, tilting it back as far as possible. Close your mouth in order to feel your neck muscles stretch. Count to 10 and relax, returning your head to normal. Perform twice daily.

Lipodisolve

Lipodisolve is a cosmetic treatment that uses injections to break down the walls of fatty cells in order to allow your body to flush the fat out as waste. This non-surgical treatment can help reduce or eliminate a double chin and is a safe choice for achieving a tight, toned jawline and chin.

Liposuction

Liposuction for eliminating a double chin is a surgical treatment that involves anesthesia and sedation. It is typically performed during a face-lift or as a stand-alone procedure to suck out excess fat deposited in the chin area. This is the only sure-fire way to entirely eliminate a double chin, but it is costly and involves invasive surgery.

Cervicoplasty

Cervicoplasty is another cosmetic treatment that sharpens the line of your chin and jaw to eliminate a double chin. This is a type of surgical procedure that involves cutting a small incision below the chin and behind the ears in order to trim off excess skin. Typically, liposuction is performed during this surgery to remove excess fat. Recovery time is typically about two weeks.
