While there are many medical cures for poor sight like laser surgery, as well as traditional remedies like corrective lenses, some natural remedies can help to make your eyesight better as well. However, it is important to note that these remedies should not take the place of an expert consultation from a doctor, as having poor eyesight and straining your eyes can be dangerous to your health or cause complications later in life.
Beet, Carrot and Spinach Juice
According to Jethro Kloss, author of "Back to Eden: The Classic Guide to Herbal Medicine, Natural Foods, and Home Remedies Since 1939," a mixture of beet, carrot and spinach juice can be consumed daily to help improve eyesight over time. To make this mixture, combine ½ fresh beet, 2 whole carrots and ¼ cup spinach in a juicer. Beet, carrot and spinach juice can be taken daily, provided that stomach irritation is not an issue, and larger portions can be made in stored in the refrigerator for 24 hours.
Chicory Root and Honey Paste
According to Bill Gottlieb, author of "Alternative Cures: More than 1,000 of the Most Effective Natural Home Remedies," a mixture of chicory root and honey paste taken twice daily will support healthier eyesight. To make this mixture, combine ½ tsp. chicory root and ½ tsp. honey, and consume twice daily. This remedy can be used on a daily basis as long as it doesn't bother your stomach or have other side effects. Large portions can be made in advance and stored in the refrigerator for up to five days if you intend on using this remedy often.
Clove Oil and Aloe Vera Juice
Vasant Lad, author of "The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies," recommends a mixture of clove oil and aloe vera juice to promote better eye health. Combine ½ tsp. clove oil and 3 tsp. aloe vera juice in a small glass or mixed with 4 oz. of water. Drink this mixture in the morning before eating and again before bed for optimum benefit. You can take clove oil and aloe vera juice on a daily basis as long as it doesn't cause any stomach irritation. Fresh aloe vera juice is commonly available in Asian and Indian markets, and should be stored in the refrigerator for up to one week.
