Running is a classic method of exercise and a tried and true method for weight loss. We all see those determined and dedicated individuals pounding the pavement at 6am or jogging along the beach at sunset and think to ourselves "I'd like to do that." Usually what stops you is the anxiety of not knowing how to start running. Seems silly since it's such a basic instinct, but an important thing to know about running is that once you start on a running program you will lose weight.,
Step 1
Go shopping. Get a pair of supportive running shoes to get you started. Ask a sales person at an athletics store and they will guide you in choosing the correct pair of sneakers to support your ankles and protect your heels. Proper equipment is essential to any workout program along with safety; a pair of running shoes fulfills both of these prerequisites.
Step 2
Keep a steady pace. You will have the urge to sprint at the start of your run, but pacing yourself is key to keeping a dedicated program. You may even have to start off walking to warm up into a steady jog at first.
Step 3
Change it up. Running everyday can become hard on the joints. So varying your distance and speed each day will not only prevent any injuries, but also it will keep your body from adjusting to your workout and therefore not burning as many calories. Try doing a long slow run one day, speed intervals another and a quick paced 4 mile run another. Variety is important for running and for weight loss.
