The NordicTrack 1000 treadmill is an exercise device that provides a cardiovascular workout by allowing the user to walk or run in place. The treadmill's features include a 1.5 CHP continuous duty motor, a built-in heart rate monitor, adjustable incline settings and a pair of swing arms designed to exercise the upper body. A console attached to the front of the treadmill's base controls many of the device's features and displays information relevant to the workout.

Step 1

Clip the treadmill's key to your waistband. Stand on the rails on both sides of the treadmill deck, then insert the key into the slot at the bottom of the console unit. Step backward three or four steps until the key comes free of the console; if the key does not come free, adjust the position of the waistband clip.

Step 2

Grip the end of the treadmill's power cord. Plug the cord into a nearby electrical outlet. Examine the base of the treadmill and find the power switch near the power cord. Flip the power switch to the “on” position. Stand on the treadmill's side rails and reinsert the key into the console.

Step 3

Use the two “Enter Weight” buttons on the right side of the console to put your weight into the display; lift your fingers from the buttons and wait four seconds to save your settings. Repeat this process with the “Enter Age” buttons on the left side of the console.

Step 4

Press the “Start” button near the bottom of the console. Wait for the treadmill's belt to begin moving, then grip both of the handrails. Step onto the belt and begin walking. Press the speed and incline buttons above the “Start” button to adjust the speed at which the belt moves and the angle of the treadmill's deck.

Step 5

Follow your progress along a simulated track by examining the LED display at the top of the console. Review the information in the “Distance” display to determine how far you have walked in miles. Periodically stand on the side rails and test your heart rate by placing your hands on the handlebar attached to the bottom of the console; the “Heart Rate” display will show your reading.

Step 6

Continue walking or running for as long as desired. Step onto the side rails and press the “Stop” button, at the right of the “Start” button. Pull the key from the treadmill's console and dismount the device. Set the treadmill's power switch to the “off” position and remove the key from your waistband.
