Monitoring your weight and body fat percentage can be a useful way to assess your health. As a commonly used method to determine fat percentage, body mass index serves to inform you of your weight status and also as a way to screen for potential health problems.
How to Calculate Your Ideal Body Weight and Percentage
Step 1
Measure your weight in pounds. Then measure your height in inches.
Step 2
Divide your weight by the squared amount of your height.
Step 3
Multiply this number by 703 to get your ideal body percentage.
Step 4
Compare this number to the established body mass index, or BMI, ranges for your height and weight to see your weight status. A BMI below 18.5 is considered underweight, 18.5 to 24.9 is considered normal, 25.0 to 29.9 is considered overweight and anything over 30.0 is considered obese.
