Jojoba oil (pronounced "ho-HO-ba oil") is a liquid wax formed from the seeds of a North American shrub. Commonly used as a moisturizer and healing aid for the face, proponents of the oil claim benefits ranging from decreased acne, improved skin health and restored pH balance. While the medical benefits of jojoba oil remain largely untested, the wax ester found in the jojoba seed is believed by some to closely resemble human sebum. Although considered safe in small quantities, jojoba oil should be used sparingly on areas prone to large, open pores.
Step 1
Check for special instructions and warnings provided by your brand of jojoba oil and keep these in mind as you apply the oil.
Step 2
Wash your face in the morning with an oil-free cleanser and warm water. If desired, place 1 tsp. of large-flake organic sea salt and gently apply to your face with water as an exfoliating rub. Rinse and pat your face dry gently with a towel.
Step 3
Pour roughly 1 tbsp. of jojoba oil into a small bowl. Dip a sterile cotton ball into the oil and apply it to your face beginning with areas of excess oil, acne or dry skin. Dab your face with the ball until the surface area is slightly glowing with the oil while not becoming drenched.
Step 4
Leave the oil on your skin throughout the day and wash your face with an oil-free cleanser and warm water before going to bed. Repeat the sea salt exfoliation if desired, and repeat the application of jojoba oil each morning or as needed.

- Contact your local health food store or cosmetic supply store and ask for the highest-grade jojoba oil available to reduce the risk of adding harmful chemicals to your face.
- Consult your doctor or dermatologist if you experience any allergic or other worrying skin symptoms.
