Medicus Golf, which began as the manufacturer of a dual-hinged training club, has expanded to offer other ways to help golfers improve, including videos, swing trainers and even golf schools in Georgia and Florida. Medicus' PowerMeter is a device that clips to any club in the bag to measure club speed. Swing speed drives distance, so the measure is mainly a concern with the driver. Still, the PowerMeter requires minimal setup among different golfers because of varying player height and club length.

Step 1

Open the PowerMeter by pressing up on the locking levers. This opens the device like a clamshell.

Step 2

Place the PowerMeter on the shaft, just below, but not touching, the grip. The shaft fits between two sets of rubber guiding tabs. If the shaft doesn't fit, move the device down the shaft until it fits.

Step 3

Close the device gently. If it doesn't close easily, check that the shaft is between the rubber tabs. Make sure the PowerMeter's readout screen faces up, so you can see it easily after swinging the club.

Step 4

Configure your PowerMeter. Turn it on by pressing and holding the left button for one second. Press the right button to toggle between mph and kilometers per hour. Hit both buttons to select your preference. Set your height in inches, moving taller with the left button and shorter with the right. Lock in height by pressing both buttons. Repeat the process for the club length.

Step 5

Swing the club. The PowerMeter will display your clubhead speed after each swing. If you don't swing or disturb the PowerMeter for 40 seconds, it will power off automatically.

Tips and Warnings

  • You can review saved PowerMeter readings after the device is on by pressing the left button, which will flash the last reading. Save that reading by pressing the right button. Press the left button again to move to the next saved reading. The PowerMeter will return to normal mode if no buttons are pressed for four seconds.
