Tolleson, Arizona, is a quaint and scenic town near greater Phoenix. Finding activities for children in the town can be challenging, as it lacks the variety of a heavily populated city. However, there are several organizations in the area that are dedicated to offering a healthy environment for local children to stay active after school and during the summer.
Community Pool
The Tolleson community pool is open to the public during the summer months. Although fees are charged for pool use, they are affordable and children under the age of 3 can swim for free.
Swimmers of all ages can receive lessons from American Red Cross-certified experts. The lessons are scheduled throughout the summer, with each session lasting two weeks. For competitive swimming, children ages 4 to 18 can enroll in the Tolleson Tidalwaves swim team.
Boys & Girls Club
Built in 1988, the Tolleson branch of the Boys & Girls Club offers a safe and rewarding environment for children of all ages. There, members can receive daily hot meals and participate in many healthy activities.
A fully equipped gym helps children stay in shape and bond with peers. Likewise, a game room offers plenty of fun and social interaction. For children who want to exercise their brain, the Boys & Girls Club also offers a learning center and computer lab.
Boy Scouts
The local Boy Scouts chapter for Tolleson residents is the Grand Canyon Council, which is based in Phoenix. Young men and their parents will find Boy Scouts to be rewarding.
Group activities include camping, boating and hiking. Team sports also are organized by the chapter, as well as exciting trips to wilder areas of Arizona. There are several summer camps involved with the Grand Canyon Council, all of which are located within a short driving distance of Tolleson.
Girl Scouts
The Arizona Cactus-Pine Council is Tolleson's local Girl Scouts chapter. It offers exciting opportunities to Arizona girls throughout 90 communities. In addition to regular scouting, year-round camps and sporting events are organized by the chapter.
Girl Scouts isn't just about having outdoor fun, however. From cookie sales to community service opportunities, being involved with this group helps young girls to build life skills and character.
Youth Soccer
The Arizona Youth Soccer Organization is a nonprofit group that organizes soccer teams for boys and girls. The main goal of the organization is to offer a healthy and friendly environment for children to compete. This means that every player has a chance to be on the field during every game.
Also, the coaching philosophy behind the AYSO is one of positive leadership, ensuring that every child feels supported and encouraged. The local AYSO group for Tolleson residents is Region 225.
