Christian Youth Activities in Houston Area

As a Bible-belt state, Christian parents in Texas cities enjoy a plethora of family-friendly options for entertainment. When seeking youth religious-centered youth activities for their children, parents in Houston can turn to activities sponsored by local congregations, universities and nonprofit organizations. There are Christian arts, sports and ministry programs for kids of all ages.

Vacation Bible School

During the summer, churches of all denominations all over the Houston area hold vacation Bible school for kids of all ages. The programs mix kid-focused Bible study with arts, crafts, sports and field trips. Many churches advertise vacation Bible school dates before the end of the school year in church bulletins and on their websites. During early summer, vacation Bible notices can be seen on church lawn signs all over the city. Some churches mix the vacation Bible school with mission programs in which students help with overseas relief efforts by assembling care packages for children in poor countries. Christian radio station KSBJ 89.3 has a community calendar on its website listing community events, including vacation Bible school locations.

Christian Youth Theater

Houston's Christian Youth Theater offers a wide range of programs for children of all ages who have an interest in performing on stage. The theater produces a full season of family-friendly musical productions. Classes include singing and dancing lessons for toddlers. Older children can enroll in ballet, drama, musical theater, voice, directing and stunt classes. High school students can apply for High School Youth Pursuing Excellence (HYPE), a program where students use participate in theater-oriented community service programs that reflect CYT's "Judeo-Christian values."

Houston Baptist University

Houston Baptist University provides a full range of activities for its students in the Houston community. Students in the ACTS (Assisting Communities Through Students) participate in weekly mentoring after-school programs at Yellowstone Academy, a private Christian School. There are also ministry outreach programs in underserved communities like Houston's Third Ward. HBU's Montrose Street Reach targets homeless youth and helps them transition from living on the street. Other programs include those at local high schools leading worship and testimony sessions.

Athletics

The Houston Christian Youth Association is for Christian parents who home-school children with athletic interests. The league provides sports competition in basketball, volleyball, baseball, track and soccer. It also hosts an annual sports day with intramural sports activities for kids of all ages. HCYA also coordinates a home-school graduation ceremony. High school and college students at area schools with Fellowship of Christian Athlete chapters participate in citywide programs like Fields of Faith. Students gather at a local athletic field to share their testimonies in an interdenominational rally.

SplashTown Houston Christian Youth Activities

Each year local waterpark SplashTown Houston host a Christian Youth Day. Christian bands perform as youth enjoy the rides, games and concession food. Splashtown also hosts Christian youth "lock-ins" where students can enjoy the park and Christian-oriented activities for an entire evening until 6 the next morning.
