Acne scars can occur from moderate to severe types of acne or from popping or picking pimples, according to Dr. William M. Jaremko, a dermatologist in Olean, New York. Most pimple scars start as red or brown discolorations left behind as acne heals. Scars usually lighten on their own within 12 months. You may help fade scars faster by using products you can find within most homes.
Hydration and Vitamin E
Step 1
Drink a minimum of eight glasses of water each day. Water helps flush toxins from your system and may help promote healthy skin growth, advises Dr. Jaremko.
Step 2
Apply vitamin E to your scars. Break open vitamin E capsules and apply the oils to your acne scars. Vitamin E may help speed up the healing process by reducing the number of free radicals present in scarred areas.
Step 3
Consume more vitamin E. You can incorporate more vitamin E into your diet by eating more raw sunflower seeds, almonds, olives, spinach, papaya or turnip greens, according to the book "Williams' Basic Nutrition and Diet Therapy," by Staci Nix.
Baking Soda
Step 1
Mix 1 Tbsp. of baking soda with 1tsp. of water in a small bowl to form a paste.
Step 2
Massage the paste into skin affected by pimple scars using your finger tips. The baking soda may help exfoliate the skin by loosening up dead and discolored skin cells associated with acne scars. The massage helps promote blood flow to acne scars, which promotes new skin growth.
Step 3
Rinse off the paste and loosened dead skin cells using warm water.
Turmeric
Step 1
Mix 1 Tbsp. of turmeric, a spice, with 1/2 tsp. of coconut oil.
Step 2
Massage into your pimple scars before going to bed. The turmeric helps heal blemishes, according to the Acne Resource Center Online.
Step 3
Allow the paste to dry prior to touching your face on your pillow.
Step 4
Rinse your face with warm water in the morning.
Tips and Warnings
- Refraining from popping, picking or squeezing can help eliminate the formation of acne scars. Reducing the severity of your acne through proper skin care may also reduce acne scars. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser twice a day and when you sweat excessively, avoid touching your face with your hands or oily hair, use "water-based" products on your skin, and protect your skin from sun damage.
- The remedies discussed here may not work for all people. You may have to seek assistance from a dermatologist for your acne scars. Natural treatments have not been researched fully and could cause some negative effects, such as worsening acne or skin irritation. Use natural treatments with caution.
