Veins are important in blood flow and circulation. They are underneath all the layers of your skin and usually aren't visible. However, sometimes the veins become visible, especially in areas with thin skin layers, including the neck and face. Laser therapy can help treat these visible veins. The results you obtain from laser therapy will vary based on your skin type and several laser sessions may be necessary.

Varicose Veins

When blood pools in veins, it can cause them to bulge and become visible, known as varicose veins. Varicose veins can be caused by malfunctions in valves which cause poor circulation. Pooling also can occur because of weaknesses in the vein walls.

Spider Veins

Spider veins are small visible veins that occur most often on the cheeks and nose, according to the Mayo Clinic. Spider veins are caused by pooling of oxygen depleted blood that moves toward the heart. This pooling causes the veins to inflate. Spider veins can be made worse by exposure to the sun, extreme cold or conditions such as rosacea. While not physically harmful, spider veins can be uncomfortable due to a burning or itching sensation on the skin. They tend to show up spontaneously in pregnant women. There are several treatments for spider veins including laser treatment, electrodessication and intense pulsed light.

Telangiectasias

When small blood vessels become visible on the skin, it is called telangiectasias. Visible facial veins are the veins that are most likely to be accompanied by burning or itching, especially if due to rosacea. Liver disease also can be a cause of spider angiomas, one of the causes of telangiectasias.
