Pet-Friendly RV Parks in Delaware

Jennifer Hicks, Leaf Group

Delaware offers a variety of state and private parks that welcome recreational vehicle owners with pets. You can find pet-friendly RV facilities in Fenwick Island, Millsboro, Rehoboth Beach and Selbyville. While Delaware’s state pet visitation rules apply to all animals, most regulations are written for dogs. Different RV parks maintain additional rules.

State Rules

You can find a list of state pet guidelines -- including requirements for licensing and vaccinations -- at the Delaware State Parks website (see References). Pets must be on leashes of no more than six feet, except when in designated off-leash areas or while hunting. On park grounds, pets must be kept quiet from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Owners must clean up after pets in Delaware state parks and use the composting receptacles -- called doggie dooleys -- wherever available for the disposal of waste bags. Pets cannot be left unattended outside or in vehicles, and park rangers on state property are allowed to break into vehicles to rescue animals that could die of heat exposure in summer months.

Fenwick Island

Lost Lands RV Park on Fenwick Island bills itself as a family-oriented community. It’s known for large RV sites and quiet, secluded areas. Well-behaved, leashed pets are welcome without fees. Fenwick Island sits at the southeastern tip of the state, near Ocean City, Maryland.

Millsboro

Holly Lake Campsites, located nine miles from Delaware Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, admits dogs of all sizes with no pet fees. In addition to the camping and tent sites, leashed dogs are allowed on the two miles of hiking trails and in the dog-walk area. Animals must be attended at all times outside, and pets are not allowed inside cabins.

Rehoboth Beach

Situated with the Atlantic Ocean to the east and Rehoboth and Indian River Bays to the west, Delaware Seashore State Park welcomes dogs of any size without fees. While dogs are not allowed in public swimming areas, there is a designated area where dogs can swim. The camping, tent and RV sites also accept leashed dogs, and the campground provides a dog walk.

Selbyville

Treasure Beach RV Park and Campground offers RV sites that permit small pets only if kept on a leash. No additional fee is required to bring a pet, and animals cannot be left alone at any time. Treasure Beach lies one mile west of Fenwick Island and is a short drive from Ocean City.
