According to FamilyDoctor.org, hair loss can occur for numerous reasons. People lose hair because of hereditary factors, giving birth and certain infections and diseases. There are, however, natural remedies that have been suggested to help stimulate hair follicles and allow hair to grow back healthy and strong. Herbs like rosemary and sage, as well as the aloe vera plant are natural folk remedies that can be tried to help stimulate hair growth. If you are experiencing hair loss and are concerned, check with your primary health-care provider.

Rosemary and Sage Remedy

Step 1

Take a few pinches of the rosemary and sage and place in a bottom of a cooking pot. Fill the pot with several cups of water.

Step 2

Bring the water to a boil, and immediately turn off the stovetop. Cover the pot and let the herbs steep for 10 to 20 minutes.

Step 3

Strain the tea into a glass jar. Add a few ounces of castile soap and mix thoroughly.

Step 4

Shampoo your hair with the mixture once or twice a week, following up with your normal conditioner.

Aloe Vera Remedy

Step 1

Take the aloe vera plant and cut a large leaf off.

Step 2

Slice the leaf down the middle and allow the yellow latex substance to drain.

Step 3

Gather the gel from the leaf and place it in a bowl.

Step 4

Shampoo your hair, and while your hair is still wet, liberally apply the aloe vera gel to your hair, massaging it into your scalp.

Step 5

Rinse the gel out of your hair, and condition it as usual.

Tips and Warnings

  • GrannyMed notes that rosemary and sage have been known to help stimulate hair follicles, resulting in hair growth. Aloe vera contains glycoproteins and polysaccharides, which are also helpful for new hair to grow. You can also add nettles and horsetail herb to your tea shampoo formula. Rosemary and sage essential oils are another option, and you can add numerous drops of each to your favorite shampoo. Taking saw palmetto in capsule form is another natural remedy that has also been suggested for growing hair.
  • If you experience skin irritation, discontinue use. Check with your doctor before seeing herbal treatments. For example, do not take saw palmetto if you are anemic, because it can interfere with iron absorption.
