How to Take Care of Texturized Hair

According to "Hair and Hair Care," texturized hair has been trimmed with layers to give the illusion of additional volume. Texturizing adds body to thin or fine hair, according to "The Science of Hair Care," often leaving the hair looking healthier than before the texturizing. Though texturized hair is commonly regarded as easier to care for than hair that has not been texturized, according to "Hair Care: An Illustrated Dermatologic Handbook," you should take special care of your texturized hair to keep it as healthy as possible.

Step 1

Shampoo your hair three to four times a week with a volumizing shampoo. According to "Hair and Hair Care," shampooing texturized hair daily can lead to dry, brittle hair. Instead, texturized hair should be shampooed a maximum of four times per week.

Step 2

Apply a deep conditioner to your hair twice a week. According to "The Science of Hair Care," a deep conditioner, which can be purchased at a salon or beauty supply store, will keep texturized hair hydrated and shiny if used twice a week. Too much use of conditioner can weigh down hair, giving it a lifeless, dull appearance.

Step 3

Comb your hair with a wide-toothed comb. Avoid using a hairbrush, which can damage texturized hair, according to "Hair and Hair Care."

Step 4

Avoid heated styling elements, which can dry out texturized hair, leaving it brittle and dull, according to "The Science of Hair Care."

Step 5

Use moderate amounts of styling products if you must, but avoid them entirely if you can. According to "Hair and Hair Care," styling products such as gel, mousse and hairspray can build up in texturized hair and weigh it down.
