Personal safety tips can be helpful for kids and teenagers when they have been caught in a situation that may be harmful to them. The tips can help when you are inside the home or outside playing with other friends. Safety should always be the first priority in any activity for kids and teenagers.
Personal Information
Do not give out personal information regarding yourself or your family members. Information like telephone numbers, home or school address, or credit card numbers you or your family may have, should never be discussed with anyone, whether online or in person. When your personal information is in the hands of dangerous people, they can use it against you.
Problems at Home
If you are experiencing problems at home, speak to an adult, preferably one that is equipped to deal with the situation, such as a school counselor, the pastor of your church or a trusted mentor. These people can help you figure out the best way to approach your situation. If you are going through physical or emotional abuse, you must reach out for help as soon as possible. The longer you wait to report it, the longer the abuse will continue.
Bullying
If someone is harassing you or bullying you at school, or anywhere outside of home, tell your parents or some other trained adult as soon as you can. The sooner you report it to an adult, the better your chances for getting the help needed to make the harassment or bullying stop. When bullying occurs at school, do not be afraid to go to a counselor, principal or teacher. Bullying can damage your psyche and should be addressed as soon as possible. If one adult will not hear you, keep trying until you find an adult who will listen and help you stop the bullying.
Blogging
Online blogging can be fun between friends and people you want to meet on the Internet. However, always keep safety in mind when writing blogs for others to read. Remember that you do not know everybody who will read your blog, and some people may not be who you think they are. Also, sending pictures of yourself, whether appropriately posed or not, is a bad idea. Pictures allow another person on the blog to see who you are, making you a possible target for something dangerous.
