Soup diets are a type of fad diet used to lose weight quickly. The eating plans are often very low in calories and involve you following a very restricted menu. Since soup diets are very low in calories, you should first speak to a doctor before you rely on one to drop weight.

Cabbage Soup Diet

This seven day diet has you eating cabbage soup as part of most of your meals. It is for quick weight loss and can not be followed long-term. Each day you eat cabbage soup made from cabbage, onions, celery, tomatoes and vegetable juice. For the first four days, you eat only cabbage soup and fruits and vegetables. Starting on the fifth day of the diet, you are allowed a serving of beef or fish. According to Every Diet.org, although you are likely to lose weight due to the low calorie content, the diet is high in sodium and low in protein, calcium and essential fatty acids.

Amazing Soup Diet

This weight loss plan was developed by contributors to Good Housekeeping Magazine. This diet allows for more food choices and emphasizes portion control. On the plan, you are allowed three portion-controlled low fat meals. Sample meals include cereal with banana and milk, turkey with avocado on pita bread, rice and beans and chili with baked tortilla chips. The soup is made of carrots, garlic, onions, celery, zucchini, cabbage, green beans and spinach. The soup contains 45 calories per serving, so you are permitted to eat as much as you want between meals to curb hunger.

Chicken Soup Diet

On this diet, you only eat a low fat and low calorie breakfast. For the rest of the day, you are allowed an unlimited amount of chicken soup. Sample breakfast options include cereal and juice, yogurt with fresh fruit and whole wheat bagel with fat free cheddar cheese. The chicken soup you eat is homemade and the ingredients include chicken, parsnips, celery, turnips, carrots, broccoli, onions and carrots.
