Pores are vital to the health of skin, allowing natural oils to reach the surface to protects against dehydration. People with oily or thick skin might have larger pores than those with normal or dry skin, and sun damage, acne and poor grooming also cause enlarged pores. To minimize large pores naturally, Dermadoctor.com recommends unplugging debris, eliminating bacteria, reducing oiliness, removing blackheads, avoiding sun damage and closing the pores.
Step 1
Place the almonds in a blender or food processor and process on high speed until pulverized. If any large chunks remain, stir the almonds and continue processing until smooth and fine.
Step 2
Transfer the almond meal to a mixing bowl and add approximately 3 to 4 tbsp. plain water. Stir well to combine. Add more water if needed, a teaspoon at a time, until you achieve a spreadable, paste-like consistency.
Step 3
Spread the mixture gently over your enlarged pores. Begin with your nose and move upward and outward to cover the rest of your face as needed. Leave on for 30 minutes, and rinse thoroughly with tepid water.
Step 4
Combine the apple cider vinegar with an equal amount of cold water to create a final, pore-minimizing rinse. Apple cider vinegar is a natural astringent that tightens the pores when applied externally, according to Lydia Wilen and Joan Wilen in the book "Healing Remedies."
Step 5
Splash the diluted vinegar mixture onto your face and wait about two minutes. Pat dry. Follow with a light, natural moisturizer, if desired.
Step 6
Repeat the almond treatment two to three times a week, and wash your face daily with a gentle cleanser for the best results.
Tips and Warnings
- Purchase prepared almond meal instead of making your own, if desired. It will yield the same pore-tightening and minimizing results. If you don't have apple cider vinegar, use witch hazel extract, a natural astringent that also helps minimize large pores. If you don't have either ingredient, use plain cold water or 2 tbsp. lemon juice diluted in 1/2 cup cold water. Avoid lemon juice if you have dry skin, however. To decrease preparation time, make a large batch of almond meal and store in a cool, dark place in an airtight container. Dip out about 1/3 cup and mix with water for each treatment.
