Designed for trail runners and cross-trainers, the New Balance 840 is lightweight and particularly useful for those who like to keep up their speed while taking on a variety of terrains. The shoe is constructed to absorb shock while remaining comfortable and stable. It is available for both men and women.

Features

The New Balance 840 shoe features ABZORB cushioning in the heel for maximum impact absorption. The synthetic mesh upper gives runners support and makes the shoe more breathable. According to New Balance, the shoe also has superior outsole strength due to its N-Durance rubber compound.

Gender Model Differences

Although the 840 is offered for men and women, there are a few minor differences between gender models. For example, the men's shoe has the N-LOCK external support system to help ensure the shoe is snug around the midsole, along with a seamless Phantom Liner to reduce the shoe's weight and make it a more comfortable fit. The men's version also comes with N-Grip tacky rubber for added traction control. The women's model has an integrated LockDown Liner for a customized fit that won't smother the foot. The outsole is fitted with Herringbone Outsole for fast pivoting and extra traction. The shoe also has a Blown Rubber Outsole for lightweight cushioning and flexibility.

Price

As of summer 2010, New Balance 840 shoe can be purchased for between $38.19 and $85.00.
