Ice and roller skating are fun and healthy activities for people of all ages. Skating provides aerobic exercise and helps with balance and coordination. Cincinnati residents and visitors can take advantage of several ice and roller skating rinks in the area to enjoy the physical and mental benefits of skating.
Types
There are ice and roller skating rinks throughout Cincinnati. Two outdoor venues, Sawyer Point's roller skating pavilion and Fountain Square's downtown ice rink, allow skaters to get some exercise along with fresh air. All the other rinks, both roller and ice, in Cincinnati are indoor facilities.
Locations
For those looking to burn extra calories on skates on the north side of Cincinnati, try the Fun Factory in Norwood or the Indian Hill Winter Club in Indian Hill. Western Rollarama is located on the west side near Covedale, and the Fountain Square Ice Rink is downtown. Several rinks also are located on the other side of the river from Cincinnati in northern Kentucky, including the Fun Dome in Florence and Northern Kentucky Ice Center in Crescent Springs.
Experience Levels
The skating rinks in Cincinnati cater to all skill levels, from first-timers to more experienced skaters. The roller skating rinks all offer public skates for all ages and levels, as well as private events. Some of the ice rinks, like the Northland Ice Center, feature open public skates and hockey time, along with private skating and hockey lessons.
Costs
The cost to skate varies depending on the rink and type of skate. Open public skates cost from $1 to $7 on prime weekend nights. Fun Factory Cincinnati operates a different skate every night with varying prices. Every rink also offers skate rentals, with the roller rinks renting low-top and high-top skates and rollerblades and the ice rinks renting regular ice skates, as well as hockey skates. Skate rentals range from $2 to $5.
Amenities
While skating remains the main reason to visit a Cincinnati skating rink, many of the rinks also include other activities and events. The fitness-conscious will love Sports Plus ice rink for skating, but will also enjoy the volleyball and basketball courts for a quick pick-up game. Several of the rinks also include skate shops so you can purchase your own skates.
