Decorating a toddler girl's bathroom can be fun for the child and parent. Let your daughter be part of the planning process. At this age, she probably already has one or two favorite colors. Give your toddler a choice of several color combinations so that she feels involved in the process. It'll help you avoid a disastrous outcome.
Sponge Painting
Sponge painting is an easy and inventive way to create an exciting bathroom. To begin, you will need to select one or more sponge designs and two paint colors. Home improvement stores often carry sponges in different shapes and sizes. You can have fun and make the room personal by allowing your toddler to pick the paint colors and sponge designs that she would like to see on the walls. You will want to choose paint colors in tones that work with each other. Determine which color will be the base that covers the walls and which color will be applied with the sponges.
Stencils and Stamps
According to Suzanne Korn of Vintage New England Stenciling, in the late 1700s, artists traveled the New England countryside stenciling artwork on the walls of homes and inns in place of wallpaper, which was expensive. Over the years, stencils and stamps have evolved. Now, there are many patterns and sizes from which to choose. When determining the stencil or stamp to use, consider what your daughter likes. Maybe she likes flowers, butterflies, fairies, animals, stars, shapes or polka dots. You can be creative with stencils and stamps using them as borders at the top, middle or bottom of the wall or as freeform designs scattered on the walls.
Stripes
Stripes are a classic design that will weather fashion trends. This is a nice way to incorporate two coordinating colors, and add interest to your toddler's bathroom. You can stripe entire walls or the bottom or upper halves of walls. If you desire a beach or cottage look, you could apply beadboard wainscoting to the bottom half of the wall with stripes on the upper half of the wall. To make one wall a focal point, paint stripes on the wall. On the other walls, apply a solid color.
Handprints
Toddlers are fascinated with their hands. If you are feeling adventurous, consider doing the top half of one wall or all the walls with your daughter's handprints. Choose the colors that she loves, and let your imagination soar. The bottom half of the wall could have a solid base coat. It would probably be a good idea to dress in old clothes and not worry about perfection. If you can relax, both of you could have a delightful time and make many good memories.
