Diets that target fat weight loss in the belly promote eating monounsaturated fatty acids, or MUFAs, with every meal. According to the March 2007 Journal of Diabetes Care, eating a small portion of monounsaturated fatty acids with every meal can prevent and disperse belly fat. Many diets that focus on losing fat in the stomach recommend eating 5 to 6 small meals every 2 to 3 hours with a MUFA. These diets also recommend eating lean proteins and complex carbohydrates and avoiding processed and refined, sugary and high-calorie and low nutrient foods.

Avocados

Avocados are high in potassium, vitamin E, B vitamins, folic acid and fiber. They give you energy and fill you up. Avocados are also high in monounsaturated fatty acids, which help you burn belly fat. Eating avocados also helps your body absorb more fat-soluble nutrients, such as alpha and beta-caratene and lutein, according to Avocado.org. Many diets that target the stomach recommend eating 1/4 cup of avocado---about three slices---with a meal to help you lower your belly fat. Spice up your meals by adding a few slices of avocado to scrambled egg whites, a salad, a whole grain sandwich or your turkey or chicken.

Almonds

Many of the belly fat diets recommend eating raw, unsalted almonds daily as a snack or with a meal. Almonds are high in MUFAs to help get rid of belly fat. They are high in vitamin E, magnesium and potassium, and are a good source of calcium. Eating almonds as a mid-day snack provides you with protein to give you a mental and physical energy boost that won't cause a spike in your blood sugar levels. Almonds contain fiber that will fill you up and block some of the fat calories from being absorbed, according to the Almond Board of California. Eat about 10 almonds a day for flat belly benefits.

Dark Chocolate

A sweet treat that is on the approved list of many of the belly fat diets is dark chocolate. Dark chocolate has polyphenols, which are antioxidants that help prevent and repair free radical damage to cells. They are also good for your heart. CNN notes that eating dark chocolate also helps you cut calories and control cravings, and it's high in MUFAs to help reduce central body fat distribution. It's important to eat dark chocolate that doesn't have added sugars and fats. Choose 65 percent cocoa or higher and check the label for hidden sugars and fats. Keep your portion size small; eat only 1/4 cup of dark chocolate a day for flat belly benefits.
