If you are looking to joining a fitness club, the Dallas area has many different options to fit your specific preferences. Many fitness clubs or gyms in Dallas will have multiple gyms in the city and the suburbs. Fitness club memberships allow you to escape the heat and humidity of Dallas and still get a workout.

Inexpensive Options

There are some relatively inexpensive options in the Dallas area. Some of these fitness clubs have low membership costs because they provide the bare essentials for fitness. For example, Snap Fitness is pretty inexpensive, with average monthly membership costs totaling $35 as of August 2010. This small fitness center carries all basic weight and cardio machines, including elliptical machines, stationary bikes and treadmills. The club is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week in most Dallas area locations. Snap Fitness is located in Dallas, Arlington, Red Oak, Irving, Ducanville and many more suburban locations in Dallas.

Fitness Classes

If you prefer to work out by joining fitness classes or want access to a personal trainer, you will want to look into a club with a wide variety of classes and a convenient schedule. You will also want a gym that hires certified and experienced instructors. Pulse Fitness and Trophy Fitness Clubs has four locations in the Dallas area, including Addison and Mockingbird. Mondays through Thursdays, classes begin at 6:00 a.m and end 8:30 p.m. Most locations have saunas, massage therapy, a pro shop, and televisions on every cardio machine.

Bang for Your Buck

If you are on a budget but still love a fitness club chock-full of amenities, you are going to want a gym that gives you the most for your money. 24 Hour Fitness in the Dallas area offers amenities such as a lap pool, a basketball court, sauna, and juice/snack bar. The gym also offers cardio, group cycling, Zumba, yoga, pilates classes, depending on the location of your gym. 24 Hour Fitness clubs have many locations in Dallas and the suburbs surrounding Dallas. As the name suggests, the gym is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Small Fitness Clubs

You may feel more comfortable in a smaller and more private fitness club where you can have a more personal relationship with staff and trainers. These gyms are sometimes referred to as boutique gyms. A smaller gym will most likely have little or no classes and essential-only amenities, depending on the gym. Body Renovation is located in the heart of the Park Cities and was voted best gym by Dallas Morning News and Paper City. Every member at this gym is set up with a personal trainer.

Considerations

With any fitness club you decide to join, thoroughly tour the premises to make sure it is a space you will feel comfortable working out in. Ask gym facilitators questions about the cleanliness of the machines, for example whether patrons are encouraged to sanitize weight equipment and cardio machines after use or the staff is responsible.
Also, read through contracts carefully before signing and know cancellation and relocation policies. Inquire after any annual or extra fees that may be charged to your account or credit card.
