The Vicks V4500 is a cool mist humidifier designed to work without a filter. It comes equipped with a 1-gallon removable water tank, integrated scent pad heater and a variable mist setting. Because the humidifier requires tap water, minerals may accumulate in the base unit over time; if this buildup is left untreated, the device may cease to function properly. It's important that you inspect and clean your Vicks V4500 humidifier regularly.
Step 1
Turn off the humidifier. Grip the device's power plug and disconnect the cord from its electrical outlet; wind the power cord into a loop. Lift the cover off the top of the humidifier; turn it over and set it aside. Insert one arm through the looped power cord and grip the base unit with both hands. Carry it over to the sink and pour out any residual water.
Step 2
Rinse out the base unit with cool tap water; shake gently to loosen any residual dirt or debris. Pour out the tap water and use a clean cloth to dry the base unit completely.
Step 3
Pour undiluted white vinegar into the interior of the base unit. Examine the interior of the humidifier's cover and locate the pickup tube. Grip the end of the tube and turn it clockwise. Remove the tube and place it into the vinegar, resting in the humidifier's base. Leave the vinegar undisturbed for approximately 20 minutes.
Step 4
Pour out the vinegar and rinse out the pickup tube and the interior of the base unit. Refill the base with cool water and add a teaspoon of chlorine bleach. Insert the pickup tube into the cleaning solution. Leave the cleaning solution undisturbed for approximately 20 minutes.
Step 5
Pour out the cleaning solution and rinse out the pickup tube and the interior of the base unit; continue rinsing until you are no longer able to detect the smell of bleach. Dry the pickup tube and base unit thoroughly.
Step 6
Fit the connector end of the pickup tube into the interior of the top cover. Turn the tube counterclockwise until it locks into place. Wipe down the top cover with a clean, dry cloth. Refill the humidifier's base with cool tap water and replace the top cover. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet and turn on the humidifier.
