Nicoderm CQ helps you quit smoking. The product provides your system with nicotine to help you handle and reduce your cravings for cigarettes. GlaxoSmithKline, the makers of Nicoderm CQ, claim that doctors recommend their patch more than any other product on the market. Drugs.com reports that the side effects associated with this product include high blood pressure, dizziness, burning and itching at the point of patch application, skin redness and nausea.
Step 1
Select a non-hairy area of the skin to apply the Nicoderm CQ patch. GlaxoSmithKline recommends that you use your upper arm, but states that you can use any non-hairy portion of your body.
Step 2
Wash the area of the skin where you plan to apply the patch. Use a non-moisturizing soap. Allow the skin to dry completely.

Press the patch down firmly on your skin. Hold the patch against your skin for 10 seconds.
Step 6
Wash your hands to remove any nicotine that may have rubbed off.
Step 7
Dispose of plastic liner in the included disposal tray slot that comes with your Nicoderm CQ package.

Step 9
Keep the patch on while you sleep only if you crave cigarettes in the morning; otherwise, remove it before going to bed. Remove the patch in the morning if you wear it while sleeping.

Step 11
Wash your hands.
Tips and Warnings
- Apply the Nicoderm CQ patch daily at the same time each day, preferably in the morning when you wake up. Patch can be worn safely while showering, bathing, using a hot tub or swimming. If after 4 to 10 weeks of using Nicoderm CQ, you are unable to stop smoking, stop using the patch.
- Do not use Nicoderm CQ with any other tobacco products as this may lead to a nicotine overdose. Do not wear the patch longer than a 24 hour period and never wear more than one at a time. Do not use the patch in the same area of the skin for at least a week to prevent irritation.
