Although there are many supplements and products available that make claims to help you lose weight, these products are often unnatural and have potential side effects that many people are not willing to risk in order to shed a few pounds. There are some natural home remedies that can help you lose weight as well. However, these remedies have not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration, so talk with your doctor before using these treatments.

Natural Apple Cider Vinegar, Lemon Juice and Water

According to Paul C. Bragg, author of "Apple Cider Vinegar: Miracle Health System," a mixture of natural apple cider vinegar, lemon juice and water can be used as a natural home remedy for weight loss. To make this mixture, combine 1/2 tbsp. of natural apple cider vinegar with 1/2 tbsp. of lemon juice and 8 ounces of water and stir to combine. Drink the mixture 30 minutes before a meal to help curb hunger and aid in weight loss. Note that Bragg recommends only natural apple cider vinegar with at least 5% acidity for weight loss and health use. This mixture should be consumed three times daily before meals. Larger portions can be made in advance and stored in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours if desired.

Add Ground Cinnamon to Your Diet

According to Melanie A. Sachs, author of "Ayurvedic Beauty Care," adding ground cinnamon to your diet can help you lose weight when used as a sugar substitute and to keep insulin resistance low, which is a common problem among overweight and obese people. To use ground cinnamon for weight loss, you can crush or grind several whole sticks of ground cinnamon in a mortar and pestle and store the powder in an air-tight bottle in the medicine cabinet or cupboard, or you can buy pre-ground cinnamon powder. Sprinkle 1/2 tsp. of ground cinnamon on your food or mix the same amount with a glass of water three times per day. This natural remedy should be used three times per day as long as no irritation occurs.

Evening Primrose Oil

According to Monica Reinagel, author of "Secrets of Evening Primrose Oil," evening primrose oil can be used to help speed up the weight loss process by helping the body to naturally burn more calories. To use evening primrose oil, take 1 capsule of evening primrose oil daily, ideally after your first meal of the day to avoid stomach irritation. Evening primrose oil can be found online through many vitamin and herb sellers. Many health food stores, large grocery stores and retail chains carry evening primrose oil. Note that Reinagel recommends at least 20 minutes of exercise per day to maximize the benefits of taking evening primrose oil on a regular basis for weight loss purposes.
