Those who use cloth diapers have the satisfaction of knowing they are aiding the environment by not burdening landfills with disposable diapers. They also have the added perk of saving a considerable amount of money by not constantly having to buy diapers. One aspect that can detract from the advantages is having to clean the cloth diapers. Stains on cloth diapers are inevitable, but with the right know-how, poopy diaper stains are as good as gone.
Step 1
Scrape away any dried debris with a plastic utensil.
Step 2
Rinse off the stained area under cold running water.
Step 3
Fill a plastic tub with cold water.
Step 4
Add a scoop of powdered laundry detergent to the water and toss the diapers in, making sure they are completely submerged.
Step 5
Agitate the water with a gloved hand or a stick every few minutes for at least 30 minutes.
Step 6
Launder the diapers in warm water with laundry detergent and a cup of chlorine bleach.
Step 7
Launder the diapers a second time but add no detergent.
Step 8
Add a cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle. The vinegar helps to extinguish lingering odors as well as eliminate any soap residue.
Tips and Warnings
- Make sure to get the stain out before putting the diapers into the dryer. Heat can set in the stain permanently.
