Few things are as stressful as unemployment, particularly if the economy itself is poor as well. Even in a booming economy, job hunting can be exhausting and nerve-wracking. However, there are some strategies job seekers can utilize to make finding a suitable job as quick and easy as possible.

Get Motivated

Though it may sound simple, maintaining motivation is the first step in getting a job. Many people find themselves too stressed out or discouraged by past failures to vigorously attack the task at hand. If you don't have a job, chances are you have time to invest in finding one.

Get up early each morning and dress as if you're going to work. Even if you don't have any prior commitments, this will help put you in a professional, proactive mindset. Formulate a game plan for what you'd like to accomplish that day. It can be as simple as landing one interview. You need to have a goal in mind at all times.

Know Your Role

It's rare you'll land a job, or, at least, land a job you'd be happy to have, by sheer luck. You need to have a strategy and know what your goals and limitations are.

Are you looking for a short-term or part-time job simply to make some cash right now? Are you trying to break into a specific career in a field you'd like to remain in for the long term? Would you like to obtain a job that amounts to a promotion in your current line of work?

Knowing precisely what you're looking for is essential when hunting for a job.

Use Every Resource

Thanks to the Internet, looking for employment longer means reading the classified ads in your local newspaper. There are a bevy of job-related sites on the Web, and many of them list thousands of jobs.

The catch is, you're not the only one who knows about these sites. Again, get up early every day to peruse new listings and apply for attractive jobs. Those doing the hiring are often in a rush to fill positions, meaning those who apply quickly often get the job, even if more qualified applicants later apply.

Expand Your Horizons

You may be an out-of-work brain surgeon or an unemployed ditch-digger. It matters not if you've got bills piling up and no paycheck coming in.

Don't be afraid to expand your horizons. Many people feel hamstrung by their past experience and training, but many also have landed in lifelong careers simply by taking a chance on the unknown. Thus, broaden your job search scope. Read any job advertisement that looks like something you might have even a small level of interest in. Apply for jobs that appeal to you even if you feel under-qualified. The worst they can do is say no.

Don't Give Up

Once you find a job, there will be a natural inclination to stop looking. Don't. If you have big ambitions, you won't get where you want to be without being opportunistic. That's not to say you should hop from job to job; it's important to establish credibility and experience on your resume. However, some of the best jobs only become available once in a while. If that means applying for your dream gig only a few months into your current one, give it a shot or you'll regret missing your chance.
