Venapro is a homeopathic remedy for hemorrhoids. MayoClinic.com states that hemorrhoids are swollen veins of the anus and rectum that can be both internal and external. They can swell, itch and cause pain. Venapro is a blend of natural ingredients and is available in supplement or spray form. According to the Venapro website, it is safe and effective, and easy to use. The herbal ingredients include arnica for swelling, St. Mary's thistle for pain, muriatic acid for itching, and horse chestnut. While Venapro is made from natural ingredients, side effects can still occur. As with any herb or herbal product, consultation with a physician prior to beginning treatment with Venapro is recommended.
No Immediate Relief
Venapro may provide relief from hemorrhoids; however, it may take several months to feel complete relief. According to Michael Tierra, author of "The Way of Herbs," there are many ways the body reacts to herbal formulas, and herbs may, when used properly, help the body "cure." The author also mentions that herbal formulas will not show any immediate results.
Irritation and Allergic Reactions
Venapro is made with herbs that contain antiseptic and wound healing properties, such as arnica and witch hazel. These two herbs, while noted for their antibacterial and anti-inflammatory abilities, also are astringents, which can be harsh to the skin.
Witch hazel is made from the bark, twigs and leaves of the Hamamelis virginiana plant. Venapro uses both the powdered form of witch hazel in its supplements and the alcohol extract in its spray. While the powdered form may not cause any irritation, the alcohol extract will cause slight burning when sprayed on the affected rectum area.
Arnica is a flower of the daisy category, and causes allergic reactions to those allergic to the daisy and chamomile flowers. The allergic reaction can manifest differently in each individual, ranging from hives and itching, to more severe reactions like anaphylaxis. As with any herbal medication, it is best to consult with a physician prior to beginning treatment with Venapro.
Contraindications with Prescription Medication
Along with allergic reactions and no immediate results with herbal formulas, contraindications with other medications can occur when using Venapro. According to the "PDR for Herbal Medicines," herbs such as horse chestnut and arnica interfere or aggravate how anticoagulants and coumarin work within the body, since both horse chestnut and arnica both contain similar properties.
Consultation with a physician prior to beginning treatment with Venapro is highly recommended, particularly if the potential user is currently taking blood pressure or heart medications.
