Since the late 1990s, woman's skateboarding has continued to increase in popularity. Select companies in the modern skateboarding industry produce pro model skateboards for both male and female riders on the team. The process of learning how to skateboard remains the same for both males and females. Every new skateboarder, regardless of what gender, has to learn the basic maneuvers of skateboarding first. Girls stepping on the skateboard for the first time should suit up with a helmet, elbow pads and knee pads.

Step 1

Take your skateboard and pads to a level paved area away from any cars or traffic. Place the helmet on your and buckle the clip. Tighten or loosen the helmet straps as necessary. Slide on your elbow pads and knee pads. Attach the Velcro straps in place.

Step 2

Lay down the skateboard so the four wheels touch the ground. Place your left or right foot, depending on preference, on top of the four bolts located at the front of the skateboard. Lift your back foot onto the back four bolts and stand on top of the skateboard.

Step 3

Lean forward putting your weight on your toes to test the looseness of the board. Lean backwards with your weight on your heels. Take your back foot off the back of the skateboard and rest it on the ground. Lean forward as your push off of the ground with your back foot.

Step 4

Continue to push until you start to gain momentum. Lift your back foot back onto the back area of the skateboard. Lean forwards and backwards to turn the skateboard in either direction.

Step 5

Lift your back foot off the back of the board and drag the bottom of your shoe against the ground to slow the momentum of the skateboard. Practice pushing, turning and stopping to master the basic maneuvers of skateboarding.
