A plastic bottle brush can be a lifesaver for anyone who needs to scrub the inside of a container with a narrow opening. Whether you need to clean a baby bottle or a decorative vase, the flexible bristles of a bottle brush can reach places that your hand just won't fit. After all of that scrubbing, it is a good idea to give your bottle brush a cleaning of its own now and then. A thorough cleaning and sanitizing will prevent the transfer of debris, bacteria or mildew to the next bottle or utensil that requires scrubbing.
Step 1
Rinse the plastic bottle brush with warm water after use. Run your hand over the length of the brush to remove loose debris.
Step 2
Fill a small basin with hot water and a squirt of dish soap. Add 1 tsp. of household bleach for every gallon of water in the basin.
Step 3
Slip on a pair of rubber gloves, and give the water a swish with your hands to distribute the bleach and suds.
Step 4
Place the bottle brush in the water. Allow the brush to soak for approximately three minutes.
Step 5
Remove the bottle brush after the three-minute waiting period. Give the bottle brush a final warm water rinse. Set it in a dish rack to air dry. Repeat the process once a week.
Tips and Warnings
- You may want to soak a few other things with the bottle brush to save time. Sanitize teething rings, nipples, baby bottles and sippy cups at the same time. Rinse these items with warm water before adding them to the basin. If you have a dishwasher, place the bottle brush in the top rack once a week for cleaning.
- Always wear rubber gloves when handling household bleach. Bleach can be very drying and irritating to your skin.
