Families sometimes store clothing in the attic until they need it again. When the time comes to take the clothing out of the attic and prepare it for the next baby, parents are sometimes confronted with old stains on those little items of clothing. If the stains have been in the clothing for a long time, they will have to be specially treated so they'll come out of the clothes completely. It is possible for old food and spit-up stains to be removed from those bibs, sleepers, onesies, gowns and other baby clothing.
Step 1
Sprinkle 1/2 tsp. baking soda and 1/4 cup of club soda on the stains and let the mixture sit on the stains for five minutes. Brush the mixture gently using the soft brush until the stain has come out. Wash the baby's clothing as you normally do, recommends Modern Mom and the Creative Homemaking website.
Step 2
Mix 1/2 cup laundry booster, 1/2 cup dishwashing detergent and 1 qt. boiling water in a bucket. Stir the mixture until the powder has dissolved. Add an additional 3 qts. hot water and soak the clothing. After one hour, take the clothing out and check the stains. If the clothing is still stained, return it to the bucket and leave it in overnight and wash them as you normally do the next day. Rinse the clothing twice when you have finished washing it, says Modern Mom.
Step 3
Mix 2 tbsp. oxygen cleaner with 2 cups of boiling water. Add 2 additional qts. of water and mix until the oxygen cleaner has dissolved. Soak the stained clothing for one hour, then launder as usual. Rinse the baby clothing twice before drying them, according to Modern Mom.
Tips and Warnings
- Always rinse a baby's clothing twice before drying. Check the clothing to make sure all of the stains have come out before you put it in the dryer. The heat sets the stain into the fabric.
