Egg Beaters are an egg substitute product suitable for people who wish to follow a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet. This product is easy to prepare and can purchased at most American grocery stores and supermarkets.

Significance

For years, the American Heart Association has been recommending that individuals limit their saturated and cholesterol intake in order to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. As a result, Egg Beaters egg substitute was created. This egg substitute contains high-quality protein without the fat and cholesterol normally found in egg yolks.

Function

Egg Beaters are used to replace eggs in a number of dishes. Most commonly, Egg Beaters are substituted for scrambled eggs as a source of protein for breakfast. This product can be prepared exactly the same way that normal scrambled eggs are prepared, although sometimes their fluffiness may not quite be the same as regular eggs. Egg Beaters can also be used to add protein in other prepared items. Because they are a pasteurized food product, they can be safely added to protein shakes.

Types

Egg Beaters come in a variety of types. The original version has 30 calories per serving and has a yellow coloration, whereas the Egg Beaters Whites has only 25 calories and is entirely made up egg whites with no artificial colors. Eggs Beaters Garden Vegetable has celery, peppers, onions, and herbs added to it, and similarly the Egg Beaters Southwestern has peppers, onions, and spices added to give it a distinct flavor.

Who Might Use Egg Beaters

Egg Beaters is an excellent source of protein for anyone who is trying to gain muscle mass or who needs to follow a high protein diet. If you are following a low-carbohydrate diet, it might be helpful to use Egg Beaters as your carb-free source of protein in the morning at breakfast. Diabetics and those with cardiovascular disease can also use Egg Beaters because it is considered to be a lean protein and heart-healthy food.

Warnings

Like any food product, Egg Beaters can go bad, so be sure that you always refrigerate this item. Once it has been opened, you need to use it by the expiration date or throw it out. Be sure to inspect the food before using it and make sure that the tamper-resistant seal has not been broken and that there are no physical signs of spoilage.
