D2 Cycling Shoe Review

Based in Eagle, Colorado, D2 owner Don Lamson has been making bike shoe specific orthotics and custom cycling shoes since 1986. The serious cyclist can find the shoe perfect for their feet with D2, a company that has proven experience in designing and testing this product.

Types

D2 has a full line of cycling shoes for every type of rider. Cyclists can choose from shoes built for mountain biking or cyclocross, triathlon, criterium and road racing/riding and even randonee racing. There are two options for track racing for those who sprint and those who race short track.

Levels of Customization

D2 offers three levels of customization for their shoes. The first is called the "Best Fit Option" and is the most popular level. Using a fit kit, the best last for each of your feet will be chosen from 42 sizes and nine widths. Level 2 customization is finding the best fitting last and adding modifications where needed to accommodate different length toes, bone spurs and other needs. Level 3 customization means shoe lasts are made to the exact dimensions of your feet.

Process

The process begins with the company sending a fit kit to the cyclist. The cyclist needs to complete the fit kit and send it back. From the measurements and past shoe history, plaster molds will be made for use in choosing the proper last. The shoes will take two to three weeks to complete.
