Beaumont, Texas has a wide variety of health and fitness clubs serving people looking for free weights, exercise groups and cardio machines. Some Beaumont fitness clubs are tailored to females and even people over 50. While many of the fitness clubs are concentrated in what is called the “West End” of the city, most are along major roads and easy to find.
Boot Camp offering
A number of Beaumonters work out at two World Gym and Fitness Center locations. The full-service World Gym is at 229 Dowlen Road, near Phelan Boulevard. The gym operates some of the World Gym’s signature programs, such as the boot camp, kid’s cardio, belly dancing, zumba, indoor cycling, power step aerobics, Extreme Abs, Lunge and Move, yoga and X-treme cross fitness. There is also a large area of free weights and circuit machines. There is also a World Gym Express located at 4046 Dowlen Road.
Women only workouts
While most of Beaumont’s health and fitness centers are coed, Curves at 6755 Phelan Boulevard is just for women. Along with weights and circuit machines such as treadmills and stairs, the center also offers a 30-minute workout program and the CurvesSmart personal coaching system. Curves has free weight management classes for members that includes a 30-day diet plan.
4 a.m. start
Another West End exercise center is the Beaumont Health and Fitness Center in the Colonnade Shopping Center. It opens earlier than any other center, allowing residents in at 4 a.m. during the weekdays. It has a 2,000-square-foot training room for cardio machines, many with televisions in front of them. There is also a large free weights area. The center has personal trainers and massage therapists on staff. There is also a steam and sauna room. Visitors can find classes in step aerobics, yoga and aqua zumba.
Centrally located
The Wilton P. Herbert Health and Wellness Center, at 3030 North Street is associated with the Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital. It is the most centrally located fitness center in Beaumont, and one of the largest with 68,000 square feet of space. That space includes indoor basketball, racquetball and volleyball courts, indoor track, a pool and tennis courts. There is also a children’s area where kids can stay while their parents work out. There are classes for step aerobics, indoor cycling and other group exercises.
50 and over
If you're looking for a setting that would be comfortable for older residents, Beaumont has one of six Nifty After Fifty fitness centers in Texas at 3835 Phelan Boulevard. Along with the usual areas for exercises classes, free weights and cardio machines, Nifty After Fifty also offers driving simulators, employment and volunteer services, personal nutrition counseling, social connection opportunities and skin care.
