Handlebar grips are an important piece of motocross equipment. They allow a rider to maintain a strong grip on the handlebars of a bike, aiding control of the vehicle, and also provide improved control over the brakes, gears and throttle of the bike. Grips can be easily installed using a number of common household items, removing the need for expensive professional assistance.
Step 1
Loosen the brake and gear controls on the handlebars with an Allen wrench. Push them into the middle of the bars to give yourself the optimum amount of space on which to work on the grips.
Step 2
Slide the blade of a screwdriver underneath the existing drips and prize them upwards to give you enough space to spray in some WD40. Twist the grips to spread the lubricant around the bars. Gently twist the grips off the end of the handlebars; this should be fairly easy because of the lubricating effect of the WD40.
Step 3
Wipe away any excess lubricant from the handlebars using a cloth. Take the new grips and spray some hairspray or grip glue into them to make them easy to slide onto the handlebars.
Step 4
Slide the grips onto the bars as quickly as you can. Move them onto their required positions and leave them for approximately fifteen minutes so that the hairspray has time to set; this will give an adhesive effect, providing the bars with some extra traction.
Step 5
Return the brake and gear shifters to their original positions and secure them using the Allen wrench.
