Proform 700 Elliptical Troubleshooting

The Proform 700 Elliptical is a type of crosstrainer from the well-known manufacturer of home fitness equipment. It is a manually operated elliptical and retails at most stores for under $300 as of 2010. Features of the Proform 700 include heart rate monitoring, electronic display, iFit compatibility and multiple workout programs. Before you contact the manufacturer about any problems you have with the elliptical, you can perform some basic troubleshooting techniques at home.

Step 1

Inspect all bolts on the Proform 700. If you find any loose bolts, tighten them using an Allen wrench.

Step 2

Replace the batteries in the console. If the electronic console does not turn on or appears dimmer, unlock the battery compartment by pressing down on the tab. Take out the batteries and replace with four new "D" batteries.

Step 3

Troubleshoot the heart rate sensors. If the grips are not providing a read on your heart rate, you may need to adjust your hold on them. Keep your hands still with a firm grip. However, do not hold them too tightly since it may affect the accuracy of your reading. Stay in contact with the grips for a minimum of 15 seconds.

Step 4

Level the Proform 700. If a rocking motion occurs, you can level the machine by turning one or both of the leveling feet located beneath the front stabilizer. Turn each leveling foot until the crosstrainer no longer rocks during use.

Tips and Warnings

  • A 90 day manufacturer's warranty comes standard on the Proform 700 Crosstrainer. Contact the manufacturer if you are still experiencing problems after troubleshooting to inquire about warranty coverage and repair options.
  • Never use any harsh chemicals to clean the Proform 700. Heart rate grips should only be wiped down with a clean cloth. The rest of the crosstrainer can be cleaned with mild soap and a small amount of water. Pat the elliptical dry with a clean cloth when done. Alcohol and other cleaning chemicals may cause problems with the display and heart rate readings.
