Treating acne doesn't have to involve abrasive cleansers or chemical peels. There are plenty of home remedies you can try before you buy synthetic treatment products. Pimples arise when pores become clogged with dirt or cosmetics, dead skin cells and sebum, your skin's natural oil. Fresh produce can help unclog your pores and clear existing blemishes as well as prevent new ones from forming. You only have to go as far as your kitchen to find an arsenal of acne-fighting ingredients.
Step 1
Lay a coffee filter over a drinking glass and squeeze two fresh tomatoes over it. Collect the juice in the glass and save the pulp.
Step 2
Squeeze lime juice into the glass with the tomato juice.
Step 3
Mix dry oatmeal with water to form a gentle exfoliant paste. Wash your face with the paste, paying special attention to areas where blackheads form. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean towel.
Step 4
Dip a cotton ball into the lime and tomato juice and use it as a toner. You may also choose to save the toner for later use and spread the fresh tomato pulp over your face as a mask. Leave the mask on your skin for 15 minutes, giving the citric acid time to draw out impurities. Tomato pulp can be quite effective against blackheads.
Step 5
Mix 2 tbsp. baking soda to 1 tbsp. honey and apply as a spot treatment to new blemishes. The baking soda acts as a drying agent, while the honey works as an oil-free moisturizer.
