Since 1980, Medifast, a physician-developed weight loss plan, has been assisting in weight loss battles. Medifast advertises the ability to help people lose weight without feeling hungry using the plan's High Fullness Index.

Medifast Plans

Medifast base their plan on mini-meals throughout the day. It consists of the Medifast 5 & 1 plan, featuring five portion-controlled meals a day and one Lean & Green Meal. The Lean & Green Meal consists of 5 to 7 ounces of lean meat and three servings of low-carbohydrate vegetables.

Medifast Meals

Medifast provides their customers with portion-controlled meals such as shakes, soups, oatmeal, eggs and desserts. A variety of meal options exist, including women, men, diabetes and gluten-free packages.

Clinical Results

According to the Medifast website, clinical studies have shown that people lost up to two to five pounds per week using the Medifast plan. Clinical studies have also confirmed Medifast medically safe.

Costs

As of August 2010, Medifast meals cost around $11 a day. Four-week packages that contain 143 meals are available for $299.50 and two-week packages are available for $154.50. Shipping incurs additional costs.
