If you've heard someone call you "chipmunk cheeks," you know this expression is not one of flattery. Many people desire to have more defined cheek bones instead of chubby cheeks. Facial exercises are one way of exercising the muscles of the face to create a firmer, tighter, and thinner appearance for your cheeks. Seven facial exercises can be performed to benefit your cheeks. Try to repeat each exercise five to 10 times in front of a mirror for optimum results.
Cheek Exercises using Facial Expressions
For the first exercise, fill both cheeks with air, puffing them up like chipmunk cheeks. Next move the air to only one cheek and then to the other. Continue this until you need to breathe. Relax and repeat, advised the Facial Exercise Guide website.
For the second exercise, open your mouth to the shape of an "O." Next, place your tongue on the outside of the lip and trace around the lips in a circle. Do this is in both a clockwise and counterclockwise motion. Keep the upper part of the face relaxed, especially the forehead. This exercise not only exercises the cheeks but also works the lips and neck muscles.
Cheek Exercises Using Smiling
For the first exercise, tilt your head back and place three fingers on the apple of your cheeks. Apply pressure on the cheeks and then smile tightly, trying to push up the cheeks while pressing down. Relax and repeat, advises Fitness Health Zone.
For the second exercise, smile while also slightly pursing the lips. Then suck in your cheeks so that your cheekbones become more prominent and hold for 10-15 seconds. Relax and repeat. You'll feel as if you're making a "fish face" when doing this exercise.
For the third exercise, again start with a smile but this time smile as widely as possible with closed lips. Keep the corners of the mouth turned upward, as if you are aiming for your ears. Finally try to wrinkle and move your nose so that your cheek muscles intensify and slightly move up. Hold for five to 10 seconds. Relax and repeat.
Cheek Exercises Using Pouting
For the first exercise, pout and pucker your lips while keeping your lips closed. Focus on actively engaging the cheek muscles while making this expression and hold the position for 10 seconds. Relax and repeat, says the Dermaxine website.
This second exercise is similar to the first exercise, except that only the top lip is engaged. Pucker only the top lip and try to move your cheek muscles as close to your eyes as possible while trying to move your top lip as close to your nose as possible. Hold this position for 10 seconds. Relax and repeat.
