Tea tree essential oil has antibacterial properties that can help treat and prevent acne. Blackheads and whiteheads are both considered forms of acne that are created when excess oils and dead skin cells block pores in your skin. These blockages can become infected and spread, causing other acne symptoms such as cysts and nodules. Lavender oil is another essential oil that is used on all skin types. When washing your skin, use a light touch to prevent irritating your skin, and avoid picking at any blemishes. They will tend to multiply or spread.
Step 1
Pour the boiling water and five drops of tea tree or lavender essential oil into the bowl. Cover your head and bowl with a towel to create a facial sauna. Steam your face for five minutes to open pores.
Step 2
Use warm water and wash your face with a mild soap. Rub a wet washcloth in a circle pattern around your face to help remove dead skin cells. Rinse your face and pat dry.
Step 3
Place the almond oil and the remainder of the essential oils into a clean jar. Shake vigorously until it is well-combined. Use a cotton ball and apply the oil in a thin coat over your face. Let it dry before putting on any other creams or makeup.
Tips and Warnings
- Substitute extra virgin olive oil for the sweet almond oil. If you prefer, skip the facial sauna and use your shower as a full-body sauna, just shake the essential oil directly on the shower pan. Take care not to burn your skin. You can also apply the tea tree oil directly on a blemish using a cotton swab.
- If any irritation or allergic reaction occurs, discontinue use and contact your physician.
