Candida is not known as a children's disease, but kids can be susceptible to the Candida yeast overgrowth. However, Candida Support notes that kids can recover much faster than adults. The actual condition is known as an overgrowth of the yeast microorganism Candida Albicans, which exists in every person's intestinal tract, according to the Florida-based National Candida Center. It can manifest in a variety of symptoms, so it's important to pay attention to unusual rashes or other signs in your children.

Thrush

Thrush is a condition in which the Candida yeast overgrowth appears on the lining of the mouth and tongue as white, yeast lesions. The Mayo Clinic says the lesions can spread to the roof of the mouth and into the throat and tonsils. The lesions can be mild or quite painful and bleed when scraped. These symptoms most often appear in babies, older adults with dentures or people who use inhaled corticosteroids or have compromised immune systems.

Rashes

Babies may display symptoms of Candida overgrowth by having frequent and heavy episodes of diaper rash, according to Candida Support. The organization notes that other types of skin rashes can accompany Candida, including eczema-type rashes, which can be scaly, dry and patchy. These rashes can be worst on damp days or in damp environments.

Earaches

Candida can pose a "chicken-and-egg" problem for many parents and children. When many children have an earache and symptoms that point to an ear infection, their pediatricians, with good intentions, prescribe an antibiotic medication. However, the use of antibiotics can contribute to an imbalance of Candida yeast and probiotics, known as helpful bacteria, in the intestinal tract. With the antibiotics knocking out the bacteria, Candida can grow beyond normal or healthy levels. Among the results are earaches, Candida Support notes. Headaches, sinus problems and irritability are other outward signs related to this imbalance.
