The Sportline company manufactures the Walking Advantage line of pedometers. Pedometers count your steps and measure the distance you've walked. Many models also calculate how many calories you burned during your workout. Many diets and fitness programs center around walking. Using a pedometer is a good way to track your progress and set new goals. Before you first use your pedometer, you will need to enter some information including your stride length, weight and distance settings.
Step 1
Activate the pedometer. Pull the plastic protector from the battery door.
Step 2
Choose either miles or kilometers. Press the "Mode" button to check if your pedometer is set to miles or kilometers. If you need to change the distance setting, press and hold the "Reset" button for 5 seconds.
Step 3
Calculate your stride length. Walk 10 steps. Measure the distance you walked from toe to toe. Divide the distance by 10. The resulting number is your stride length.
Step 4
Input your stride length. Press the "Mode" button until "DIST" is displayed. Press the "Set" button to enter input mode. Press the "Set" button continuously until your stride length displays. Every time you press the "Set" button, the number increase by 1 inch.
Step 5
Input your weight. Providing this information results in a more accurate calculation of calories burned. Press the "Mode" button until "CAL" is displayed. Press the "Set" button to enter input mode. Every subsequent press of the "Set" button increases the weight by 1 lb.
Step 6
Position the pedometer. Clip the pedometer to your waistband as close to the crease line of your pants as possible. Make sure the unit is parallel to the ground. If it gets turned, it will not operate correctly.
Step 7
Start the unit. When you are ready to exercise, press the "Reset" button for 2 seconds. This will reset all settings to zero.
Step 8
View your workout information. Press the "Mode" button to cycle through steps, distance, calories burned, clock and timer.
