The Candida diet is unfortunately a very restrictive one. There are many foods that you must avoid including vinegar, malt, flour, bread, pasta, sugar, anything containing sugar and even many fruits. These items are in many prepared foods so when on the Candida diet it is best to make all of your foods at home. When dining out, focus on eating lean protein such as beef with mixed green salad, using just lemon juice as a dressing. Please consult your physician before beginning any diet or fitness program.
Brown Rice
Brown rice contains no gluten and is acceptable on a Candida diet. There are not many grains that are acceptable, so become creative with your dishes. Add vegetable to your rice, or make a stir fry of vegetables and serve over rice. There are many recipes that are made of brown rice. If you need to use flour in a recipe, look for brown rice flour as other flours made from wheat are not acceptable on the Candida diet. You can also look for other brown rice products to enjoy as snacks such as brown rice cakes.
Eggs
Eggs contain protein and are acceptable on a Candida diet as long as you have no allergies to eggs. Use them for breakfast, lunch or dinner. You can make eggs scrambled with vegetables, create a frittata or an omelet. Adding vegetables will increase the nutritional value of your meal.
Poultry, Meats and Fish
Poultry, fish and meat are permitted on the Candida diet and should be used as a source of protein with meals. Protein helps you stay fuller longer, so it will keep you from becoming too hungry. Since you won't be eating many grains on this diet, you will need protein to stay full.
Fruit
You many only consume fruits that are low in sugar. For example, grapes are to be avoided. Apples should also be avoided because they are mold contaminated. The best choice of fruits while on the Candida diet include berries such as blueberries and strawberries.
Vegetables
All vegetables, including potatoes and sweet potatoes, are permitted and encouraged on the Candida diet. Be creative with your vegetables to keep your meals interesting. For example, use zucchini to make zucchini pancakes. These only require eggs, zucchini, water and brown rice flour. Another treat you can make from vegetables while on this diet is French fries made from potatoes or sweet potatoes.
Oils
For cooking, dressings and marinades, use only safflower and olive oil that are expeller pressed. These oils are safest while on the Candida diet because they don't contain mold. Butter is also acceptable on this diet.
