Wrinkles and fine lines along the surface of your skin are some of the most common signs of aging, according to the American Academy of Dermatology, and signify that your skin cells have become damaged. Thankfully, painful skin lifting surgery and expensive prescription creams from your dermatologist aren't your only options for rejuvenating your skin and smoothing away wrinkles. Several over-the-counter remedies and lifestyle practices can easily help you reduce, fade and disguise your wrinkles for a more youthful look.

Step 1

Scrub your skin twice a day with an exfoliating cleanser or skin wash, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. The center says this resurfaces your skin, helping to reduce wrinkle depth and length by getting rid of the damaged cells that make up the wrinkling. You can use scrubs made with physical scrubbing granules or cleansers formulated with acids like glycolic or lactic acid.

Step 2

Rub on a moisturizing cream or lotion every morning, recommends Paula Begoun, a skincare tester and author of "Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me." She reports that dehydrated skin makes wrinkles look more severe, and keeping your cells moisturized helps plump up the skin to instantly help reduce wrinkle appearance.

Step 3

Smooth on sunscreen before going outdoors, even if the sky is clouded over, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. This protects your skin from ultraviolet light that can even penetrate cloud cover, damaging your skin and causing wrinkles, and also helps wrinkled skin to repair. The American Cancer Society suggests wearing a sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 15.

Step 4

Apply a retinol anti-wrinkling cream every evening, according to the Mayo Clinic. The University of Maryland Medical Center says retinol is one of the most effective over-the-counter anti-wrinkling skincare treatments and can help to reduce wrinkles and improve skin firmness.

Tips and Warnings

  • Apply a silicone-based primer before wearing makeup if you use such cosmetic enhancement products, according to Begoun. The silicone helps fill in any lines or wrinkles you have to keep your makeup from settling into your wrinkles, thus helping to instantly camouflage your aging skin symptoms.
  • Retinol products might make your skin more susceptible to damage from the sun. Thus, you should always use retinol creams at night.

Things You'll Need

  • Exfoliating wash
  • Moisturizer
  • Sunscreen
  • Silicone skin primer
  • Retinol cream
