Stains are a way of life when there's a baby around. From the inevitable spit-up stains to diapers that simply can't hold everything in, fabric that makes frequent contact with your little one can become easily stained. If the quilt in your baby's crib is beginning to show signs of being a little too loved it's time to clean it up. Fortunately, removing stains from baby quilts is a simple chore with the right materials.
Remove Poop Stains
Step 1
Scrape away any dried debris from the quilt with a plastic utensil and rinse the area off with cold water.
Step 2
Fill a bowl with cold water and add 2 to 3 tbsp. of a bleach-free liquid laundry detergent to make the water sudsy.
Step 3
Place the stained area of the quilt into the water and allow it to soak for 20 to 30 minutes.
Step 4
Launder the quilt with warm water and bleach-free laundry detergent.
Step 5
Add 1 cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle to help eliminate soap residue and lingering odors.
Step 6
Repeat the process before drying the quilt, as heat can make the stain set in permanently.
Remove Spit-Up Stains
Step 1
Rinse the area under cold, running water.
Step 2
Lay the quilt flat with the stain facing up.
Step 3
Sprinkle baking soda liberally over the stained area.
Step 4
Pour club soda over the baking soda to saturate the stain. This will cause a lot of fizzing.
Step 5
Scrub the area with area with soft to medium bristle brush. You can use an old toothbrush for this.
Step 6
Allow the area to air dry before laundering the quilt in warm water with a bleach-free detergent, according to the manufacturers' instructions for washing.
Step 7
Add 1 cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle to help get rid of excess soap residue and odors.
Step 8
Repeat the process if there is any stain remaining before drying the quilt.
