Beaumont is located on the peak of the San Gorgonia Pass in Southern California. Situated 80 miles east of downtown Los Angeles and 30 miles west of Palm Springs, this city has experienced 130 percent growth since 2000, according to Forbes Magazine. Beaumont retains a small-town feel and offers your children a host of summer activities to keep them active and entertained.

Water Fun

The Beaumont Plunge Pool offers open swimming during the summer and swimming lessons beginning in June. Head out with your children for a day at Lake Perris State Recreation Area approximately 10 miles away from Beaumont. The two most popular swimming areas, Moreno and Perris beaches, have large grassy areas next to the beach where your children can run, throw around a Frisbee or kick around a soccer ball.

Parks

Enjoy the outdoors at one of the dozen city parks located throughout Beaumont. Blow bubbles with your toddlers, throw around a football with pre-teens or attend summer concerts in Stewart Park. Located in Beaumont's downtown core, Stewart Park is home to Beaumont's Plunge Pool, several playgrounds and a skate park where your children can practice their tricks. Fly a kite at Beaumont's soccer field or bring a soccer ball to practice kicks.

Classes

Arrange for private golf instruction for your teen-aged children at Oak Valley Golf Club's Academy. Children aged 3 to 7 will learn basic tennis skills when attending Tiny Tennis at Noble Creek Tennis Court. Polynesian dance classes are available at the Noble Creeks Community Center for all ages from 4 to adult. The Banning Cultural Alliance offers a summer Graphic Arts and Photography program for youth aged 8 and older. During the program, your children will take walking trips for photo shoots and then process their digital photos.

Biking

Beaumont's and neighboring Riverside's quiet residential neighborhoods provide for good cycling. As well, there are biking routes available for all skill levels and ages, from the moderate six-mile San Gorgonio bike trail that leads you through Beaumont's downtown into Highland Springs to a 20-mile hilly ride around the city's perimeter. For mountain biking enthusiasts, Idyllwild, located 15 miles away, offers biking trails including Black Mountain Road. Take your children biking through the National Children's Forest in the San Bernadino Mountains some 20 miles from Beaumont.

Attractions

Your children will search for dragons while participating in Beaumont's Edward-Dean Museum's kid-friendly guided tours of Asian and European art. Visit Diamond Valley Lake less than 20 miles from Beaumont. Here, you and your family can go fishing, boating or hiking through the reserve. There is also an aquatic center on site, sure to keep the young ones occupied with a play gym and water slide. Diamond Valley is also home to the Western Science Center where you can see "ice age" animals like Columbian mammoths and American mastodons, excavated from the Diamond Valley site.
