While there are numerous over-the-counter and dermatologist recommended treatments for scar treatment, these products are often expensive, unnatural or have potential side effects, leaving many people wishing for a natural way to remove old acne scars. According to Ann Worwood, author of "The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy," there is an all-natural method that can help to remove acne scars from the skin with easily accessible ingredients, some of which you may already have in your home.
Lemon Juice, Aloe Vera Gel, Basil Essential Oil and Jojoba Oil
Step 1
Combine ½ tsp. lemon juice, ½ tsp. aloe vera gel, ¼ tsp. basil essential oil and 4 tsp. jojoba oil in a small, dark-colored glass bottle with a tight-fitting lid.
Step 2
Shake the bottle gently for 10 to 15 seconds to combine the ingredients in the bottle.
Step 3
Pour a small amount of the mixture onto a clean cotton pad and dab the cotton pad on the acne scars.
Step 4
Leave the mixture on your skin for 15 to 20 minutes without covering the area with clothing or any other material.
Step 5
Rinse your skin with lukewarm water and wash with a mild soap or cleanser. Pat your skin dry with a clean towel and apply your regular moisturizer if you typically use one on that area of skin.
Step 6
Repeat this treatment daily for as long as necessary. Discontinue use if irritation or extreme redness occurs.
Step 7
Store the mixture in the refrigerator for up to 30 days in a cool, dark place or up to 60 days in the refrigerator.
Tips and Warnings
- Basil essential oil and jojoba oil can be purchased through a variety of online retailers or health food and holistic stores. Use the best quality, therapeutic grade essential oils possible on your skin.
- This remedy has not been tested or approved by the Food and Drug Administration, so talk with your doctor if you are concerned about potential allergic reaction or effectiveness of use. Never apply essential oils directly to your skin as they are very powerful and it is likely that they will cause irritation.
