If your hair looks like a bathroom scrubber, your hair may be damaged, dry and frizzy. Hair that is dry may be naturally coarse, or it may have been damaged by hair products, heat styling, perming, hair coloring, or the chlorine from a swimming pool, says Jack Myers, director of the National Cosmetology Association in "The Doctors Book of Home Remedies." Treating your hair with care and adding moisture will change your frizzy hair into manageable, beautiful locks.

Step 1

Get your hair trimmed every six to eight weeks to keep split ends from getting even worse, says New York City hairstylist Alan Tosler in the article "How To Fight Frizzy Hair" on website Marie Claire. Split ends will make hair look frizzy.

Step 2

Touch your hair only when it is completely dry. Scrunching your hair or combing your fingers through it while it's wet may create flyaways and make your hair look puffy when it dries.

Step 3

Treat your hair to a deep conditioning treatment once a week. Use a hot oil treatment for fine hair and a deep conditioning cream for thick, coarse hair, recommends Jessica Prince in the article "The Nine Best Ways to Fight Frizzy Hair" in "Allure."

Step 4

Mash up one ripe avocado and one ripe banana in a bowl, then apply the mixture to dry hair for 15 minutes. Rinse your hair out in the kitchen sink, then run the garbage disposal to dissolve the mixture.

Step 5

Blow dry your hair with a nozzle attachment, which aims air down the hair shaft and smooths out your hair follicles. While styling your hair, brush it with a hairbrush that has boar bristles to gently detangle hair without creating frizz.

Tips and Warnings

  • Wear a hat when going out in windy weather to protect hair and keep it soft and smooth.
  • Consult a stylist if your hair is so dry and damaged that it is falling out.
