Hockey equipment manufacturer Easton has long been a favorite among many players at all levels of the game, including the NHL. The company's S5 hockey stick may help you improve your game to the next level.

Construction

The S5 is a shaft is a composite shaft made from glass and carbon in Easton's patented "Pultrustion" creation process to ensure rigidity. Weighing in at only 340 grams, the S5 is created to accommodate average wooden or composite blades.

Specs

The S5 is available in a senior and junior size, measuring a full 50 inches (senior) or 40 inches (junior), and features an 80-degree flex, the amount of bend the shaft will allow before it is at risk of breaking.

Price

Easton's S5 generally retails for around $30 to $40 as of August 2010, making the shaft a viable choice for those players making the switch from wooden sticks but not wanting to spend the extra cash for composite one-piece sticks.

Advantages

The light weight of the shaft means most of the stick's weight is focused on the blade, which, along with the 80 degree flex, may help some players add additional velocity to their shot.

Disadvantages

Like most other sticks, the S5 is susceptible to breakage from shots that flex the shaft past the 80-degree flex point.
