Horseback Riding Stables in the Johnstown, Pennsylvania Area

Johnstown, Penn., lives off of its tourism, and the reason tourists go to Johnstown is for the outdoor activities. One of these activities is horseback riding. There are several stables to choose from in the region, so knowing about the area and the different locations is essential information for anyone interested.

What is Horseback Riding?

Also known as equestrianism, Horseback riding is the act of riding a horse for a recreational purpose. Although equestrianism, also refers to the use of horses for driving or vaulting with horses, when it comes to just horseback riding, the title still applies.

According to horseridingcentres.com, the most commonly used date for the commencement of horseback riding and domestication is 2,000 B.C.

Johnstown, Pa.

The town of Johnstown was founded in 1800. By the turn of the 20th century, the steel production industry was very successful in the town. In the 1980s, the town watched its industry fall apart, but has since gained the moniker of "The Friendly City."

The modern economy of Johnston relies heavily on tourism and promotes the heritage and work ethic of the region to the guests of the town.

Outdoor Recreation in Johnstown--Horseback Riding

There is a lot to do outside in the Johnstown region. There are trails for ATVs and bikes, there are good locations for hunting and fishing and there are many parks and forested areas for tourists to check out.

Another thing that the region has to offer is horseback riding. There are several places around Johnstown where horseback riding lessons are offered, as well as horse boarding.

Features of the Different Locations

Rose Hill Stable can be found pretty easily between the towns of Johnstown and Edensberg. After getting off route 219, the horseback rider can view the 44-acre farm. Horseback riding lessons are $40 for a private lesson, as of August 2010. It also offers training and boarding of horses, which is $500 for a stall board. The stable contains 42 stalls for the horses as well as a trained team to help maintain them.

Rockin' K Stables, found a half of an hour to the north of Johnstown, has a lot to offer its patrons. Horseback riding lessons are available, but so is horse training. To board a horse at Rockin' K Stables is $150 a month, as of August 2010, and there is even a show team for those who want to get even more involved with their equestrian activities.

The K.J. Equine Center has 33 acres of land, and has a black stallion named "The Moonlighter." The center offers lessons, but there are a limited numbr of them available. It will also market horses for owners. It has full care boarding for horses as well, including daily stall clean outs and top quality feed and hay.

Other Options

There are several other locations that can be found with a drive of less than an hour from Johnston. The closest, Hilltop Farms, is in the town of Homer. Another, Dream Horse Stables, can be found only slightly further away in Derry. In Pennsylvania there are plenty of the places to go horseback riding or at least find training or boarding for a horse, from the towns of Indiana to Somerset, locations are plentiful.
